How do Car Windows Rise and Fall?

Basic lifting principle of power windows

A motor that can change the running direction is set in each door. The motor operates through the change-over switch. After the worm gear installed on the main shaft of the motor is decelerated, the glass slides up and down in parallel through the rotating drum and steel wire. The upper end and the lower end are respectively provided with stops, and the tensioning cylinder and spring are used to maintain a certain tension of the steel wire to make the mechanism operate normally.

Window lifter

A window lifter is a door accessory to realize the lifting movement of window glass in the door system. It is a special component to adjust the opening of window glass. Its function is to ensure the smooth lifting of window glass and its smooth opening and closing.

Most car window regulators use very flexible connecting rods to lift the window glass while keeping it horizontal. A small motor is connected to a worm gear and several other spur gears to produce a large gear reduction ratio to provide enough torque to raise the window.
